From Simple Acts of Kindness to a Movement of Purpose

Purpose Movement was founded by David Gillette, inspired by a simple yet impactful act of kindness. One day, David decided to collect donations along the roadside to buy pizzas for people experiencing homelessness. As he shared meals and engaged in meaningful conversations, he realized that these interactions were about more than just food—they were about connection. When a social media post of David panhandling went viral, the community rallied in support, eager to help. Soon, dozens of volunteers joined David in downtown Phoenix, collecting donations and bringing food to those in need.

Through these encounters, David discovered that many of the individuals they met had grown up in foster care. Recognizing the critical needs of children in foster care group homes—many of whom are at high risk of experiencing homelessness—David shifted his focus. Purpose Movement now organizes annual events, such as back-to-school shopping sprees and holiday celebrations, to help these kids feel valued and supported. These programs allow the community to engage one-on-one with the children, building lasting, meaningful connections. For Purpose Movement, it’s not just about the items being purchased; it’s an opportunity to show the love of Jesus through compassion, presence, and heartfelt connection.
